Bundaberg Today: Bundaberg On Show

With COVID-19 restrictions easing in Queensland and more visitors returning to our beautiful region, our tourism industry and passionate operators have been in the spotlight right across the nation.

Last week, our region was showcased to Australian viewers on the popular morning program, the Today Show. Promoting our world-famous drink experiences and spectacular up-close, reef encounters, Weather Presenter Tim Davies broadcasted live from the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Barrel and Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort.

With the Today Show a household name across Australia and reaching audiences of over 190,000 an episode, coverage like this helps us to increase awareness of the region and our attributes, inspiring people to make our region their next holiday destination.  Potentially resulting in more visitors spending more money, supporting our local businesses.

Every single one of us can leverage this coverage, by sharing across social media, by encouraging friends and family to tune in and by speaking positively online about the region helping to demonstrate a warm welcome to any visiting broadcast.

Telling their journey of innovation and overcoming tough times, local farms Tinaberries and Giles Herb Farm were also featured recently on television with ABC Landline, ABC’s main platform for regional and rural coverage. Thanks to their out of the box thinking, the two farms have become well-known to both visitors and locals with Tinaberries now a popular spot for delectable fruit ice cream and Giles Herb Farm offering an alternative to floral arrangements with their beautiful herb bouquets. Tinaberries further shared their incredible story on becoming an agri-tourism attraction in our region on the morning show, Studio 10, which reaches nearly 40,000 people an episode.

Spreading the word on photogenic spots in Queensland, our region was also spotlighted on Holidays With Kids, the number one family travel platform in Australia reaching over 600,000 people quarterly. The article featured many of our own backyard experiences great for families including magical turtle encounters on the Southern Great Barrier Reef and Mon Repos, our famous drink experiences and breathtaking coastline.

Local businesses across the Bundaberg region giving up their time to share their stories with media delivers ‘money can’t buy’ coverage for the region and has a positive and tangible influence right across our local economy.  So, let’s raise a glass (or give a high five) to our remarkable business community that consistently say ‘Yes’ to showcasing our region across media, benefiting everyone.

Yours in tourism,

Katherine Reid, CEO
