Every year from November to March, the shores of Mon Repos comes alive as mother turtles haul themselves up the beach to nest and hatchlings begin the first steps of their journey as they make their mad dash to the sea.
A hero experience for the Bundaberg region, the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter is a major driver of visitation to our region, particularly from South East Queensland. With the Bundaberg Turtle Season just around the corner and dates announced, our marketing team is busy inspiring visitors to holiday in our region this Summer and make memories to last a lifetime.
This season, the Mon Repos Turtle Encounters will commence on Friday 6 November and continue through to late-March 2021. Bookings for the encounter will be available from Monday 12 October through our website, bundabergregion.org, over the phone on 1300 722 099 or in person with one of our friendly Visitor Information Centre team members at Bundaberg, Childers, and Gin Gin.
As COVID-19 has changed the way tourism experiences are operating and in line with the park’s COVID plan, the Turtle Encounters look a little different this year. To keep our community, visitors, and Mon Repos team safe, visitors’ numbers have been reduced for the Turtle Centre and Turtle Encounter tours this season and we strongly suggest pre-booking your tickets.
Along with the magical Mon Repos, we’re lucky to have a wealth of turtley incredible turtle encounters just a stone’s throw away from our doorstep! Be sure to take the kids or your visiting relatives to meet the ladies of our reef-filled backyard, Lady Musgrave and Lady Elliot Island. Our sun-soaked waters and effervescent coral reefs are the perfect place to spot friendly marine life including the endangered loggerhead, green, flatback and hawksbill turtles up close.
