Why just holiday at an award-winning Queensland coastal resort when you can choose — and quite possibly afford — to never leave?
One of the most popular mainland family and eco-tourism holiday havens in the southern Great Barrier Reef region has hit the market. And the price tag is not much higher than median house prices in Sydney and Melbourne.
Kellys Beach Resort at Bargara, near Bundaberg, is up for sale for the first time in 16 years with an asking price of $1.35 million.
The multi-award winning 3.5 star tourism asset comprises 41 two-bedroom self-contained and stand-alone eco villas. It sits a block back from the beach on 2.2ha of gardens and is surrounded by a natural creek and forest area including a nature reserve.
The property is the only mainland eco accredited resort in the region. “This place is incredibly popular with both local and overseas visitors and it has been operated by a local family, with a great deal of passion mixed in with that and it shows,” said ResortBrokers’ Glenn Millar, who is handling the sale. “We’re expecting to receive a high level of interest from experienced tourism operators who are looking to tap into a real surge in demand for unique regional tourism accommodation assets like Kellys Beach.”
Bargara is around four hours’ drive north from Brisbane. The sale price includes the management rights and associated freehold of Kellys Beach Resort. There are 39 units in the letting pool and the caretaking salary is $141,000 with no requirement for the manager to live onsite and reception hours are flexible.
The onsite licensed restaurant, Kellys Bar and Restaurant, has been operating for 16 years and is one of Bargara’s longest running and most popular restaurants which prides itself on its high quality local produce.
The property also has a liquor licence that covers the whole complex and other income streams include a conference venue for up to 60 people, a cafe and bar, and a kiosk selling grocery essentials.
“With a good mix of visitors, from both national and international markets, the nature-based experience, coupled with great service, resort facilities and accessibility to the beach and shops of Bargara, Kellys Beach Resort is a great property in a beautiful part of the world,” said Katherine Reid, CEO of Bundaberg Tourism.
Kellys Beach Resort was a silver winner in the 2017 Queensland Tourism Awards and is also eco-certified by Ecotourism Australia.
“The owners have been proactive operators in this region for quite some time and have successfully built strong partnerships with distribution partners and worked with local tourism operators to provide their guests a unique experience,” Ms Reid said.
“As the only certified eco-resort on the mainland of the southern Great Barrier Reef region, they’ve helped educate visitors on sustainability and given them the opportunity to connect with nature on holidays.”
