The Bundaberg region’s entrepreneurship in the beverage industry is now showcased in the fully-guided Bundy Drinks Tour, with three of the region’s tourism leaders teaming with a local tour company in a chauffeured afternoon of behind the scenes tours, expert knowledge, local food and local characters.

Global giant Bundaberg Rum has put the small Queensland town on the map in the face of great adversity and the subsequent emergence of a strong craft industry of boutique breweries, distilleries and wineries emerging in recent years is causing chatter in trending drinks circles.

The tours will be delivered in Bundaberg’s signature relaxed and welcoming style, and the first six tours, taking place across the weekends before Christmas and New Years, will be available for the reduced introductory price of $115.

The tour commences at the Brewhouse, home to the popular local brewery, Bargara Brewing Co., for a tasting of boutique beers brewed onsite paired with locally sourced lunch. Learn the history and secrets of Jack and Jacinta Millbank’s premium, boutique beer company. Rooted in a philosophy of reef conservation and combating aesthetic food waste, the ever-expanded range focuses on seasonality, seeing success in significant national distribution and growing exports to Asia.

On to the iconic Bundaberg Rum Visitor Experience, where you will be surprised by Australia’s favourite rum. Distilled locally from the molasses of Bundaberg's iconic red-soil sugar, the ever popular Australian spirit is heralding a new era of premium liquor status and international recognition, taking out awards including World Rum Awards Best Dark Rum 2017, World's Best Gold Rum 2016 and San Francisco Spirit Competition Gold Medal 2017. The highly enjoyable tour will take you behind the scenes of the fully operational distillery and explore its rich history.

Finish the afternoon with a one-on-one with Bundaberg’s newest success story, Kalki Moon Distilling & Brewing Co. Not even 12 months old, the tiny distillery’s handcrafted premium gins, vodka and liqueurs are being snapped up in major outlets around Queensland and taking out awards at the 2017 International Wines and Spirits Competition. Master Distiller and owner Rick Prosser invites tour groups into the hand-crafted daily operations of the distillery.

Tours will then conclude back at the Bargara Brewing Co where you can kick on with a full range of local drinks and food available at the popular venue.

Suzie Clarke, Bundy Food Tours, said, “We are so fortunate to have such a passionate industry in Bundaberg and across the whole region. The artisans in Bundaberg are punching above their weight in the craft drinks world, with international awards and large export markets proving how exceptional this region really is. I have been working with these businesses since I started Bundy Food Tours in 2016 and it’s really exciting to be able to offer a dedicated drinks tour for visitors from Christmas 2017.”

Katherine Reid, General Manager of Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism, said, “The Bundy Drinks Tour brings the hard work of some of our iconic and artisan drinks attractions together in a product that makes them even more accessible tovisitors. Bundy Food Tours has established a strong reputation as a Queensland tourism leader so we know that visitors and locals alike will find this a rich and enjoyable experience for Bundaberg. With food and drink experiences trending in travel across the world, culinary product development has been a strategic focus for BNBT over the last 2 years. A third of holiday makers spending is spent on food and drink; Living in the lush growing environment of Bundaberg and North Burnett, ensuring visitors can access (and spend money on) our food and drink assets is an important part of destination development, and tourism’s contribution to the regional economy.”

After the special Christmas introductory price of $115 per person, Bundy Drinks Tours will run each Saturday in 2018 for $149 per person. Tours include a light lunch, tastings at all three stops, expert behind-the-scenes commentary and transport. Bookings can be made at www.bundyfoodtours.com.au
