Bundaberg Shines on National Television

The Bundaberg region has been hosting the crew from national television show River to Reef this week, as they tour the region and get a taste of what visitors enjoy most about our beautiful destination.

As Australia’s premier fishing, boating and marine lifestyle show, River to Reef is about much more than just fishing. The family-friendly show takes in tourism destinations, cooking and product reviews, with an emphasis on G-rated entertainment.

Working closely with Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism and local tourism operators, lifestyle presenter Robby Nethercote and the film crew have covered many kilometers in the past six days, including swimming with turtles over the Great Barrier Reef on Lady Elliot and Musgrave Islands, being hosted on a locals-secrets tour of Woodgate Beach, learning the history of Childers, and eating and drinking their way around Bundaberg.

The show has taken in iconic fishing and tourism destinations across Australia and New Zealand but the crew has received a particularly warm welcome in the Bundaberg region.

Phillip Harris, Executive Producer, said, “We can’t get over how friendly and accommodating everyone has been since we arrived. The whole community has gone out of their way to welcome us and to create atmosphere wherever we were filming.”

“We are hoping to be back before the end of the year to film the fishing segments, focusing on the rivers and estuaries between Bundaberg and Gladstone. We’re also looking forward to coming back for our own holidays here in the future,” Mr Harris said.

Katherine Reid, Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism General Manager, said “We are so excited that our local tourism industry has been able to make the most of national opportunity. This is another example of how important tourism is in driving growth for local economy.”

River to Reef has been airing continuously across Australia since 2005. The show has a solid and growing national family fan base and is broadcast into 40 countries. In Australia, the show broadcasts nation-wide in all metro and regional free TV markets on 7HD, and 7mate.
