BUNDABERG A FAN FAVOURITE FOR AUSTRALIAN HOLIDAYMAKERS

Tourism Research Australia has this week released visitation data for the year ending December 2024 with visitors continuing to flock to Bundaberg for their holidays.

According to the national research body, the region welcomed more than 706,000 domestic overnight visitors, up 12.3% on 2023, who stayed nearly 2.2 million nights and spent more than $450 million during their visit.

Holidays were the main reason Australians visited Bundaberg in 2024, a segment that has increased by 5.8% compared to 2023 and a whopping 20.7% compared to 2019.

International visitor numbers shrunk slightly at 29,000, however these guests stayed an impressive 1.1million nights – an 8.7% increase on 2023 and 28% increase on 2019.

Bundaberg Tourism CEO Katherine Reid said “Tourism is a major contributor to Bundaberg’s regional economy, supporting more than 4,000 jobs and driving hundreds of millions of dollars into our community each year, so we are excited to receive these statistics from the Federal Government which shows that the region is recording steady growth.

“Bundaberg Tourism partnered with Bundaberg Regional Council to drive a major tourism campaign into Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne at the start of 2024, and these visitation results reflect the success of that campaign and BT’s ongoing work in driving desire for Bundaberg into the minds and hearts of Australian holidaymakers.

“The current economic climate is incredibly challenging for regional destinations, and Aussies are spending up big on international destinations like Bali, Fiji and Thailand that offer strong value for money, yet against all odds Bundaberg has seen growth in the holiday market.

“Our world-class experiences, bucket-list wildlife encounters and incomparable reef are ensuring consumers see the Bundaberg Region as extraordinary yet affordable.”
