Bundaberg and the Southern Great Barrier Reef shone again on the Queensland stage at the state's peak tourism celebration, the Queensland Tourism Awards, held in Brisbane on Friday 15 November 2024.
Three of our operators were awarded four of the state's prestigious Golds, with Bundaberg Rum Visitor Experience winning the Tourist Attractions and Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries categories; Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort winning the Steve Irwin Award for Ecotourism; and Fun Over 50 Holidays - Immersive Tours and Adventures winning Tour & Transport Operators.
Fun Over Fun Over 50 Holidays - Immersive Tours and Adventures took home Silver for the Steve Irwin Award for Ecotourism.
We also celebrate our Southern Great Barrier Reef partners who were recognised for their work: Beef Australia - Gold for Major Festivals & Events and Gold - Excellence in Food Tourism; Rockhampton Regional Council - Gold for the Richard Power Award for Tourism Marketing and Campaigns; Great Keppel Island - Gold for 3-3.5 Star Accommodation; and Rockynats - Bronze for Major Festivals & Events.
These awards are an enormous undertaking with many, many hours of work involved, and Bundaberg Tourism acknowleges every operator who enters. This year, we entered two marketing campaigns in the Destination Marketing category - the SGBR Agritourism Trails Campaign in partnership with GAPDL, and the Bundaberg SGBR - Where the Reef Begins Campaign in partnership with Bundaberg Regional Council. Competing against some of the state's top marketers was an formidable task and while we didn't place, we want to recognise the hard work and exceptional results of the BT Marketing team and our partners in the delivery of these fantastic campaigns.
