A NUTTY EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF THE SENSES

Guest Blogger Bio Jess MarsellosMacadamias Australia Visitor Centre is an immersive experience showcasing the pioneering spirit and legacy of the founding family and an all-round sensation for all the senses.

If you are chasing an experience for nut lovers like no other, look no further than the immersive experience at Macadamias Australia Visitor Centre. As you park off bustling Goodwood Road (plenty of room for RV’s too) and walk through a small arbour welcoming you to the orchard, macadamia trees laden with either nuts or blossoms surround you providing an oasis of abundant greenery which emerges to an impressive modern building that houses the Macadamias Australia Visitor Experience centre and Orchard Table.

The native macadamia which the Steinhardt family (under the Macadamias Australia brand) have lovingly tended and grown across the Bundaberg region for over 20 years and three generations - has inspired everything in the centre, from the wood used in the balustrades and towers, to the shape of the leaf used in delicate ceiling adornments.

Tastefully decorated with chairs and awnings reminiscent of street dining in Paris, the cafe and centre is stocked to the brim with not only the most delicious and delectable macadamia-inspired products and wares, but celebrates, recognises and presents a history of the family behind the experience and the process of farming used to bring the nut from orchard to table.

For those who go nuts for macadamias, there is plenty to see, try, taste and test while here. A tasting bar with free samples of all the flavours on offer showcase temptations such as Lemon Myrtle, Honey, Roasted and Salted, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla and Raw shelled nuts as well as a big bag of whole nuts.

Innovation and sustainability is at the heart of everything Macadamias Australia do. You can use the interactive display to find out about how the family manages their macadamia orchard, from sustainable farming practices to harvest and state of the art processing facilities. This is a multi-generational farm which places the family at the centre of everything and you can feel that connection and legacy in every experience on site. From enjoying a family picnic on the grass, to the cracking stations situated amongst the orchard to pick up nuts off the ground and have a crack.

The farmgate shop has some amazing pieces like macadamia husk bowls (which look more like a work of art than functional kitchen item), skincare, jams, sauces and of course the full range of Macadamias Australia nuts.

If you are dining whilst on site, there is gelato (flavours like macadamia and ginger, chocolate and macadamia and many more) , barista made coffee complete with a macca on the side, tea and cakes (think sweet potato macadamia carrot cake, macadamia brownie) - all with macadamias as the hero - or you can sit a while, brunch or lunch with their range of fare like the Bundaberg Buddah bowl, red earth dukka and avocado, house made lasagne on offer using and showcasing the best local produce available from surrounding farms and producers in the region.

The true determination, pioneering spirit and innovation is on show as part of this must-do experience. You might even grab your own macadamia tree to take home, nurture and watch it grow like the Steindhardt family have for many generations.

Keep an eye on their facebook page for special events like movie nights, brunches, long table lunches and more.
