3 night family escape to Woodgate Beach

Thanks to days full of warm sunshine and clear blue skies, it’s the perfect time to plan your next beachside getaway with the family. Only 45 minutes south of Bundaberg is the stunning coastal town of Woodgate Beach overflowing with uninterrupted coastal views, incredible walking trails and hidden 4WD tracks.

DAY 1

Grab the boogie boards and jump in the car, it’s time to make your way to the spectacular Woodgate Beach for 3 nights of family time.

Check-in

Relax, we’re on glamping time. Nestled among breathtaking greenery, you’ll find NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park’s new safari tents. A dream come true for families, the tents are the perfect way to spend that much needed time away with kids, giving you the chance to get back to nature without the hassle that comes with camping. From sitting on your private deck in the evening for a barbecue dinner to watching the kids play on the spacious grassy area outside your tent, the whole family will love this getaway.

Stroll the sights

Across the road from your accommodation, you’ll find walkways with views of the coastline as far as the eye can see. Thanks to the peaceful streets, it’s an ideal spot for the kids to ride their bikes and practice their roller-skating techniques. Along the way, stop off for a bite to eat at one of the local cafes or pick up some takeaway and sit at a table along the esplanade.

Beach days

Spend the afternoon cooling off in the calm waters of Theodolite Creek. Protected by paperbarks and blue gums, it’s a beautiful place for the kids to have a splash while you catch up on that book you’ve been meaning to read. Don’t forget to bring your kayaks and stand-up-paddle boards and explore this natural haven a little further.

Good food, great company

After a day filled of family-fun, retreat to your safari tent for a relaxing night in. Spend time in the outdoor bath while you spot the local wildlife enjoying the sunset, just like you.

DAY 2

Just 30 minutes away from Woodgate Beach is Childers, a scenic hinterland town full of amazing views and friendly locals.

Up close and personal

Snakes Downunder Reptile Park & Zoo is one to tick off the bucket list while visiting Childers. Let the kids wander the kangaroo and emu enclosure, hand feeding the friendly animals that call the zoo home, get up close and personal to an Australian icon on a koala encounter and say G’Day to the impressive saltwater crocodiles.

Lunch is served

In the neighbouring Apple Tree Creek is local family-favourite, Mollydookers Café & Bar. Inspired by all things Canadian, the café uses fresh produce to create dishes that transport you across the globe. Between the classic poutine, mouthwatering Canadian pizza, and delicious wings, no one in the family will go home hungry.

Old-world charm

Discover the unique history of Childers and explore the shops and attractions of the main street. Stop by The Old Pharmacy to learn about the medicinal marvels of the past and wander through the incredible military history at the Military and Memorabilia Museum. If the kids need to run off some steam, be sure to visit Millennium Park in the heart of town for a quick play.

Never settle for one scoop

You can’t go to Childers without tasting the iconic Mammino Gourmet Ice Cream. Using our famous local ingredients including macadamia nuts and ginger, it’s a perfect (and delicious) way to taste the region.

DAY 3

Adventure awaits

Avid 4wders, we’ve got the day for you! Let down your tyres and come discover the untouched beauty of Burrum Coast National Park. Stretching for kilometres upon kilometres, this secluded paradise is one of the least disturbed coastal plains in all of south-east Queensland. Explore the hidden tracks winding through the national park filled with native flora or head onto the beach to drive the sandy stretch. You can easily spend the day at this gem, so pack the camping chairs, fishing rods, beach toys and picnic lunch for a day to remember.

Take the scenic route

Adventure through the many spectacular walking trails of Woodgate Beach to finish off the day. From the Burrum Point camping area, wander through the Russell’s rest track to discover a magical picnic area with water views, or just minutes from your safari tent, take the Banksia track through the beautiful melaleuca wetlands and wildflowers.

Food lovers delight

There’s nothing like enjoying fish and chips on your private balcony while the kids play together. Spend your last night soaking up the tranquility of your safari tent over a glass of bubbly, reminiscing over the much-needed family escape.

DAY 4

It’s the final morning, so why not enjoy a quintessential holiday breakfast of bacon and eggs cooked on your barbecue before waving goodbye to your home away from home.

Animal haven

Make one last stop and spend some time meeting the animals of Flying High Bird Park. With over 2500 birds living at the park, walking through the enclosures of these friendly locals is the perfect way to end your family holiday.
