Family Turtle Holiday Itinerary

Grab the kids, pack your bags and get ready for a holiday they'll never forget this Bundaberg turtle season.

Check-In

If you're after kid-friendly accommodation a stone's throw from the beach than we have you covered. Enjoy a glass of wine on your private balcony as the kids play in the pool or watch a movie on open-air cinema. Or, if you prefer the convenience of being just a short walk away from boutique shops, cafes and restaurants, there are plenty of places to rest your head in the quintessential and charming town of Coral Villa Motel.

Try: Kelly's Beach Resort offers turtle-y awesome activities for the kids during the school holidays with laser tag in their gardens and plenty of space for them to run around. If you're looking to try camping with the kids for the first time, Absolute Oceanfront Tourist Park has both cabins and small powered campsite right on the water. For more city convenience, enjoy Coral Villa Motel where the kids will be in awe of their quirky artefacts displayed out the front of the motel and refreshing pool!

Memorable Moments

The kids won't be able to stop talking about their holiday after they see the mother turtle lay her eggs or watch as hundreds of baby turtles scurry down the beach to start their journey. The Mon Repos Turtle Encounter is an unforgettable ranger guided experience they will never forget with nesting November – January, and hatchings January – March.

Try: Our turtles don't like to show till it's dark and the sand is cool so bring some playing cards or load up the iPad with their favourite movie to pass the time. You can also see turtles nest and hatch on an overnight stay with Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort as the Island Reef Experts provide you with set guidelines and viewing tips during your stay.

Make New Friends

Now that the kids are turtley-obsessed with turtles, take them out to one of our beautiful islands, Lady Musgrave Island and Lady Elliot Island, to swim with the turtles. They'll be amazed at all the colourful fish and friendly turtles, and will sleep soundly in their beds at night!

Try: Teach your kids to snorkel with the Turtles with Lady Musgrave Experience or peak their interest in marine life studies on a marine biologist-guided tour with Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort.

What'SUP Mum?

Keep the momentum going with a relaxing day at Woodgate Beach. Relax on the secluded beach and let the kids run wild along the water's edge, grab fish and chips for lunch and enjoy a glass of wine with a stunning view.

Try: Hire a stand-up paddleboard or kayak for the morning and cruise along the calm waters. You may even see a turtle or a dugong swim by!

Family-Friendly Feeds

Food is one of the things we do best so you won't have any problem finding food to feed even the fussiest of eaters!

Try: Stop into Alowishus Delicious for pancakes with creamy gelato made in-store, or bacon and eggs for breakfast. Try Grunske's By The River Seafood Market and Restaurant for fresh, locally-caught seafood and views over the Burnett River.
